When it comes to movies, comedy is perhaps one genre that deals with a person’s particular taste. One film may be absolutely hilarious to you while someone else may find it positively revolting. Even with the difference in comedy preferences, we have managed to put together a list of the top ten best comedy movies of the past year. You may not agree with every pick (heck, we might not even agree), but through many suggestions as well as a great deal of research, we think this list truly has something for everyone! Keep reading to take a look at the best comedy movies of 2012.

10. 21 Jump Street

21 Jump Street Best Comedy Movies of 2012

As a remake of the older film, not everyone might enjoy this new spin. However, keeping that in mind, lots of people liked this adaptation just as much if not more! Starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill, 21 Jump Street is a goofy, likeable type of comedy that most people seemed to be rather fond of. Though it is considered “stupid” humor for the most part (and that’s just the opinion of some, of course), people who general dislike that kind of movie even laughed out loud at this one – and that’s hardly everyone’s cup of tea, so that proves quite a point.

9. Moonrise Kingdom

Wes Anderson lovers unite! This filmmaker has a devoted set of fans, and this quirky, odd, humorous film fell right into his perfect little niche. His style of film is definitely not for everyone, but it might be a good idea to check this one out even if you’re not entirely sure how you’ll feel about it. With a lot of people adoring this movie, give it a go. You may just find out that you want to be part of the Wes Anderson gang, too.

8. Silver Linings Playbook

Though comedy may not have been this movie’s most important intent, Silver Linings Playbook managed to make most people laugh hysterically while taking in the greater message of the film. Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence are amazing in their roles, and the supporting cast aid immensely in creating the wacky, crazy, unexpected humor of this movie. If you’re totally out of the loop and haven’t seen it yet, we highly suggest you hit up your local Red Box.

7. Pitch Perfect

Ok, so, if you haven’t seen Pitch Perfect, you’re really hiding beneath a rock. It seems like everyone and their mothers and sisters and grandpas and even pets have enjoyed this film a whole lot. Judging by the love that basically the whole world seems to have for it, we think it’s safe to say that most people would classify Pitch Perfect as one of the year’s best.

6. Butter

Butter Best Comedy Movies of 2012

Starring Jennifer Garner, Hugh Jackman, Ty Burrell, Olivia Wilde, Ashley Greene, and Alicia Silverstone, this movie is one that didn’t have a lot of buzz surrounding it. However, if you haven’t checked it out, you’re really missing out on something great. Just look at that cast. Meanwhile, it’s literally about an Iowa girl’s talent when it comes to making butter…and yes, it is actually funnier than it sounds, so go rent it and be prepared to chuckle.

5. Seven Psychopaths

Another movie with a star cast, Seven Psychopaths featured Colin Farrell, Sam Rockwell, Woody Harrelson, Christopher Walken, Tom Waits, Abbie Cornish, and Olga Kurylenko. The premise of the movie? A struggling screenplayer gets involved with crime and ends up kidnapping a tiny dog with the help of his friends. Crazy? Yes. Weird? Yes. Hilarious? You betcha!

4. The Dictator

The Dictator Best Comedy Movies of 2012

Fan of Sacha Baron Cohen? It’s highly unlikely that you haven’t seen this comedy, but it’s safe to say that you probably liked it or will like it. As a satire per usual, The Dictator is just as inappropriate as most of Cohen’s movies. So, if that’s your kind of thing, go check this one out. We’ve heard it doesn’t disappoint.

3. Ted

Ted Best Comedy Movies of 2012

Another dirty, drug referencing, “stupid” type of comedy, Ted really surprised a lot of people when it came out. Many people were expecting a lot and just about as many were expecting a disaster, but it seems that this odd comedy really pulled through when it came to funniness. Starring good ol’ Marky Mark and a teddy bear, what an odd combination of characters to make this list of best comedy movies of 2012.

2. Bernie

Bernie Best Comedy Movies of 2012

Jack Black, Shirley MacLaine, and Matthew McConaughey? Gotta be a hit, right? As the main character, Bernie, is an assistant funeral director, you can expect that this movie’s going to be a little odd from the start. And while it is, it’s also hilarious. As another movie that didn’t get as much press and attention as others on this list, Bernie is one that you need to go watch if you haven’t yet.

1. The Campaign

The Campaign Best Comedy Movies of 2012

Will Ferrell is one of those comedians that people seem to love or hate. While this writer may be a part of the latter, it’s safe to say that he has an immense fan base. Among those fans as well as the ones who love Zach Galifianakis, it appears that most were not disappointed in the least. So, based on that, if you’re a fan of either of those comedians, it can be assumed that you’ll love this one, too.

The ten movies above are seen as some of 2012’s funniest. While people have their own personal tastes when it comes to humor and what they find funny, there is certainly a movie for just about everyone up above. So, go on a movie watching spree, relax with some of the films listed here, and be prepared to laugh your butt off!
